APS-C format Exmor R™ back-illuminated CMOS sensor
The advanced Exmor R CMOS image sensor with 26.0 effective megapixels is packed with Sony's image sensor technologies. It offers extraordinary sensitivity, resolution and dynamic range, thanks to its back-illuminated format, gapless on-chip lenses, and AR coating (anti-reflection seal glass).
BIONZ XR™ processing power for exceptional image quality
With up to eight times more processing power than previous versions, the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine delivers natural gradations and realistic colours with low noise for stills and movies.
Wide dynamic range for diverse shooting scenarios
The α6700's standard sensitivity ranges from a low ISO 100 to ISO 32000, and offers a wide dynamic range so that natural gradations can be captured in high-contrast scenes without blown highlights or blocked shadows.
Consistently accurate exposure and colour
The α6700 offers impressive exposure control. It's equipped with a new AE algorithm, initially developed for full-frame models, which enables it to accurately detect the skin area of faces and adjust exposure accordingly when shooting stills and movies. It can also maintain realistic colours under a wide range of light sources, from sunlight through to theatre and stadium lighting, and produce more natural skin tones, sky and foliage colours.
Choose your Creative Look
The Creative Look setting offers greater creative flexibility with added simplicity. It provides 10 presets that can be used just as they are or customised via 8 adjustable parameters to suit the subject or scene, whether you’re shooting stills, movies or live-streaming. You can easily set the mood ahead of shooting so your images are ready to share immediately.
5-axis optical image stabilisation
Shoot hand-held or in low-light with confidence — the 5-axis in-body optical image stabilisation system is supported by precision gyro sensors to deliver up to 5-steps of shake compensation. It detects and compensates for various types of camera shake, including angular (pitch/yaw) shake that is more apparent at longer focal lengths, or when shooting with slower shutter speeds.
[1] Yaw [2] Roll [3] PitchPrecise compensation at the single-pixel level
Through enhanced design and control of key parameters, the α6700 provides precise detection and control right down to the single-pixel level, taking full advantage of the sensor's 26.0 megapixel resolution to produce images that capture all the finer details.
Selectable RAW file types and quality
In addition to compressed RAW capture, the α6700 supports lossless compressed RAW capture that provides efficient compression, allowing a greater number of high-quality images to be shot in continuous bursts. A new Light image quality selection that generates less data is provided for JPEG and HEIF images.
HEIF: High compression with excellent image quality
For the first time in an APS-C camera, the α6700 includes the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) format with smooth 10-bit gradations for more realistic reproduction of skies and portrait skin tones. The HEIF format also uses advanced compression technology to maintain image quality while significantly reducing file size and saving storage space.
Evolving with AI
Innovative AI processing
The α6700 is equipped with an innovative AI processing unit that greatly enhances its performance, including more accurate recognition for a wider range of subjects.
Human pose estimation
The α6700 uses subject form data to recognise movement, achieving greatly improved human eye recognition. It also employs learned human forms and postures to precisely recognise body and head positions, making it possible to lock onto and track a subject facing away from the camera, or with their face partly obscured by a helmet or sunglasses.
Wider subject recognition
In addition to humans and animals, the α6700 now recognises birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes, providing even greater flexibility and reliability when shooting both stills and movies. Heads and bodies are recognised in addition to eyes (Real-time Eye AF) for the Human and Animal settings, and now for the Bird setting too, with animal recognition performance more than 40% higher compared to the α6600.
Smarter Real-time Tracking
The upgraded and more reliable AI-based Real-time Tracking makes shooting in a wider range of situations simpler, leaving you free to concentrate on framing and composition. The α6700 can even track people wearing helmets or animals facing away from the camera.
Faster, more precise wide-area AF
The immense processing power and updated algorithms of the new BIONZ XR engine achieve notably improved AF performance, with up to 759 phase detection points, covering approximately 93% of the image area when shooting stills.
Accurate AF in low EV -3.0 light
The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision at light levels as low as EV -3.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens). The Focus Priority mode also provides more reliable AF in low light or when using smaller apertures.
Shoot more than 1000 images at 11 fps
The α6700's powerful BIONZ XR processing engine combines with a large buffer memory to boost write speeds to memory cards, so that the camera can shoot more than 1000 JPEG images, up to 59 compressed RAW images, or up to 23 lossless compressed RAW images in continuous high-speed bursts.
Full-time DMF
When shooting stills with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, the lens's focus ring can be rotated to instantly switch to manual focus mode at any time. This makes it easy to switch focus to a different subject on the fly.
Focus bracketing to capture the best shot
The α6700 can automatically shoot up to 299 images with sequentially shifted focus points according to intervals and a sequence specified by you. Pick the perfect shot, or post-process multiple shots to achieve creative composites with incredible depth of focus.
Flicker suppression
Suppress flicker from artificial lighting whether you're shooting stills or movies. Simply select "Anti-flicker Shoot", or use "Var. Shutter" to fine-tune shutter speeds to match flicker rates when filming.
Movie performance inherited from the Cinema Line
4K movie recording for stunning quality
The α6700 captures 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) at up to 60p (50p) using Sony's proprietary 6K oversampling technology. By compressing this expanded detail into the output, it achieves 4K video quality with outstanding definition, even at higher frame rates. The camera also supports high-quality XAVC S-I (All-Intra) and XAVC HS formats with 10-bit 4:2:2 colour sampling.
High frame rate 4K 120p (100p) recording
High frame rate recording at up to 120p for 4K QFHD (3840 x 2160) output makes it possible to capture high-resolution movies in-camera. This expands creative possibilities in post-production by allowing subject motion to be emphasised or transformed into smooth slow motion. S&Q mode also enables recording of slow or quick motion sequences in camera from the outset.
Expressive S-Cinetone™
Incorporating the same colour science as the highly regarded CineAlta and Cinema Line, the α6700 includes Sony's S-Cinetone picture profile as a preset, delivering images with more faithful colour reproduction and natural skin tones.
S-Log3 gamma curve with 14+ stops of latitude
The S-Log3 gamma curve emphasises gradation characteristics from shadows to mid-grey (18% grey), achieving up to 14+ stops of latitude for flexible and creative colour editing.
Real-time Tracking for movies
AI-based Real-time Tracking provides a dramatic improvement in Real-time Tracking performance, automatically recognising, tracking, and focusing on the eyes of a specified subject. In addition to using the Touch Tracking function to initiate tracking, a custom button can be used to temporarily track a selected subject regardless of the subject's position in the frame and the focus area setting.
Active Mode for enhanced movie image stabilisation
Active Mode provides powerful image stabilisation for handheld movie shooting. The α6700 can accurately measure camera shake which is then precisely compensated for optically, providing highly effective stabilisation without sacrificing mobility, even when shooting 4K.
Breathing compensation for consistent angle of view
When shooting movies with compatible lenses, automatic breathing compensation uses Clear Image Zoom technology to maintain a consistent angle of view, suppressing changes that may occur due to shifts in focus position. Breathing metadata can also be used in post-production.
Import user LUT files
See how your footage will look in post-processing while you're shooting. The α6700 allows you to import a custom LUT (Look Up Table) that can be applied to the camera's monitor image while recording, providing a preview.
Movie making made simple
The α6700 is jampacked with features to support movie shooting and production. Its Auto Framing function automatically crops and re-frames the image while using AI to track the subject. Or, for a cinematic touch, the in-camera time-lapse function allows you to create time-lapse videos within the camera itself.
Outstanding control and reliability
Made for your handsWith its compact shape, and lightweight 493 gram body, the α6700 offers remarkable portability and manoeuvrability without compromising image quality. A new grip design provides a solid, even more comfortable hold on the camera, while giving greater control for shooting both stills and movies.
High-performance electronic viewfinder
A 2.36 million-dot (approx.) XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 1.07x magnification delivers an exceptional view of your world. With twice the brightness of the α6600, and a wider 33-degree viewing angle, it offers clear, easy viewing while shooting. The finder frame rate can be set to 120 fps — twice the normal rate — for a smooth viewfinder image, with minimum display motion blur when tracking and shooting moving subjects.
Enhanced shooting flexibility with vari-angle monitor
The α6700 features a large 3.0-type 1.03 million-dot (approx.) touch-panel LCD monitor with a 3:2 aspect ratio and side-opening vari-angle flexibility. This allows greater positioning and framing freedom, giving you plenty of creative options for handheld and gimbal-mounted shooting of stills and movies
Intuitive touch control
Just touch the screen to activate key functions, such as selecting a focus point or subject to track, or triggering the shutter. Swiping in from the left or right edge of the shooting display reveals touch icons that allow quick changes to the shooting mode and other settings. The function (Fn) menu can also be displayed by a simple swipe-up. During playback, you can easily select and zoom into images through taps and intuitive pinch-out/pinch-in gestures.

Features
Unparalleled AF performance is the key to beautiful shots
Fast and accurate autofocus lets you capture fleeting moments in stunning detail, thanks to a combination of innovative technologies. A total of 425 phase-detection AF points work in conjunction with contrast-detection AF to achieve a remarkable 0.02 sec. speed, while High-density AF Tracking Technology follows even erratically moving subjects.
More accurate autofocus in dim lighting
Highly accurate autofocus is now possible even in dark settings, thanks to advances in the AF algorithm. With this model, the lower limit on the AF detection brightness range has been reduced to EV-2 when in AF-S mode.
AF in Focus Magnifier for finer focus adjustment
When extra-accurate autofocus is called for, such as when you're taking macro shots, you can display a magnified view of the general area you want to focus on, then finely adjust the exact point of focus in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen.
Easier manual focus with an improved peaking function
The camera's peaking function colour-highlights the most sharply focused section of the entire image area when you're using manual focus. Now blue has been added to the display's other peaking colours (red, yellow and white) to improve the visibility of the focus peak areas when you're doing the delicate focusing required for macro or portrait shooting.
Real-time Tracking holds the focus on tracked subjects
When you're tracking a fast-moving subject, the camera's improved automatic subject motion tracker uses a newly developed subject recognition algorithm that draws on colour, pattern (brightness), subject distance (depth) and face/eye information to recognise, and hold onto, your subject.
Enhanced Real-time Eye AF supports portrait shooting
Real-time Eye AF detects and autofocuses on the eyes of your subjects when you half-press the shutter. Either the left eye, the right eye, or auto can be specified, and when AF-C is set it maintains a stable focus even when part of the face is hidden, the face is backlit or the subject is facing downwards.
High speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking
Capture all the action with continuous shooting at up to 11fps (with after view), or 8fps (with silent shutter) and 8fps (for live view). Display lag has been minimised, and up to 116 JPEG (Standard) images can be shot, with group display available. Camera operability and access to various features while writing data have also been greatly improved.
An innovative image-processing system
The camera's APS-C size, 24.2-megapixel ExmorTM CMOS sensor provides a wide sensitivity range and excellent low-noise performance. In conjunction with the new-generation BIONZ XTM image processing engine, it delivers beautiful, high-resolution images with superb image clarity and texture reproduction.
Extraordinary image quality, low noise and a wider ISO range
Maximum standard ISO sensitivity has been increased to ISO 32000 (expanded to ISO 102400 for stills), while improved imaging algorithms, detail reproduction technology and area-division noise reduction result in more realistic textures, better detail in shadow regions, and more lifelike colours, including human skin tones and natural plant colours.
Newly added 1:1 aspect ratio for easier social-media shots
In addition to 3:2 and 16:9 aspect (width-to-height) ratios, the 1:1 aspect ratio used by social media platforms is now offered as an option. This eliminates the need for cumbersome hand-trimming of images after shooting in preparation for posting on social media.
14-bit RAW output with rich tonal gradation
When you're shooting in RAW format, the 14-bit digital signals that are converted from analog in the image sensor are passed to the front-end LSI and BIONZ X, where they undergo 16-bit processing before converting back to 14-bit RAW image output. This leads to smoother, more natural tonal gradation in these images. [1] Image Sensor [2] The latest high-speed front-end LSI [3] 16-bit Image processing
4K movie recording in high-bit-rate XAVC S format
Super 35mm format, 4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning allows oversampling with approx. 2.4x as much information as is required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160), adding up to the equivalent of 6K and giving these images more realistic depth. High-bit-rate (max. 100Mbps) XAVC S format, a consumer-friendly version of a format for professional use, plus HLG support result in better-looking movies.
Steady, precise AF tracking for better movies
Fast Hybrid AF brings high speed, accuracy and tracking performance to meet the stringent autofocus demands of 4K movies. AF tracking sensitivity can be adjusted for either stable focus or responsive refocusing, depending on the nature of the scene, and Touch Tracking lets you initiate tracking of a moving subject simply by touching the LCD screen.
S-Gamut/S-Log shooting
S-Log shooting gives you flexibility to make more expressive movies by performing colour grading in post-production. The S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves feature a wide dynamic range (up to 1300%) that can help minimise blown highlights and blocked shadows. The S-Log3 gamma setting also provides an impressive 14-stop latitude.
Slow and Quick motion, and high-speed 120fps recording
Slow motion (up to 5x) and quick motion (up to 60x) can be recorded in camera in high-quality Full HD, and no PC-based post-processing is required to view your slow-motion and quick-motion footage. Additionally, high bit-rate recordings of up to 100Mbps in Full HD can be used to create high-image-quality slow-motion movies in post-production.
Sophisticated features for easier movie-making
The α6400 facilitates the workflow of professional videographers with a wide range of functions, including clean HDMI output, time code / user bits (TC/UB), rec. control, marker display/setting, zebra function, Slow & Quick Motion, simultaneous proxy movie recording, extraction and separate storage of a still from a movie, Gamma Display Assist function, and in-monitor display of current ISO value when shooting with ISO Auto, among others.
Support for professional-quality mic and audio input
External microphones can be attached via the microphone jack, and there is also an option for line input via XLR connectors using the camera's separately available XLR adaptor kit, which enables connection with various high-end microphones for professional-level audio.
Interval shooting for the creation of time-lapse movies
Continuous shooting with a set interval between 1 and 60 seconds is now available within the camera, and the resulting still images can be edited into a time-lapse movie on a PC using the Viewer application from the Imaging EdgeTM desktop applications. A simple variable-speed preview function allows you to see an image, on the camera, of how the finished movie will look.
180°-tiltable LCD screen with versatile touch functions
The high-resolution 921k-dot LCD has a 3.0-type screen and tilts upward a full 180° for easy framing of self-portraits and vlogs. The LCD's intuitive touch operations include Touch Pad (smoothly move the focus point), Touch Focus (set the focus point), Touch Shutter (release the shutter), and Touch Tracking (activate Real-Time AF).
Smooth display on the OLED viewfinder
The high-contrast, high-resolution XGA OLED Tru-FinderTM provides high visibility, fine details even in dark areas, accurate colours and smooth displays at either 60fps or 120fps, with the framerate selectable for smoother viewing. Standard and High quality settings are available for both the viewfinder and the LCD monitor.
Custom functions for greater operability
The camera's eight keys and controls can be custom-assigned to any of 89 shooting and replay functions, and frequently used functions can also be assigned to the control dial and control wheel with My Dial. My Menu allows flexible assignment of 30 menu items, and the custom settings screen helps keep track of everything. Help displays are available on the menu screen via a single button.
User-interface improvements for efficient settings control
A new feature displays frequently used ISO ranges on the ISO setting screen, and another displays frequently used focus-area types on the AF area-setting screen. And when using Flexible Spot mode you can now cycle the AF area up, down, right and left – useful when shooting sporting scenes where the subject moves frequently within the AF area.
Greater control over white-balance settings
If set in advance, auto white balance can now be locked or unlocked at any time, for more consistent colour tones when there are multiple light sources. Custom setting of white balance has been simplified, and you can now select an AWB priority setting when shooting with incandescent lighting – either warmer Atmosphere Priority, or White Priority for purer whites.
More versatile flash functions
When shooting with compatible wireless flash units, rear-curtain sync and slow sync can now be selected, increasing your creative options for lighting.
Easier ratings and protection from deletion
Still images can be given a rating or protected from deletion, and both functions can be accessed via pre-assigned custom keys.

Improved menu structure
Responding to feedback from professional photographers and videographers, the α6700 comes with a new Main Menu structure similar to the latest full-frame α series models. The logical layout provides more efficient access to important shooting parameters, such as frame rate, shutter speed, and more. It can be assigned to a custom key for quick access when needed, and touch operation means that adjusting key settings has never been faster.

Advances in remote camera control
When doing remote shooting using the Remote app from the Imaging Edge desktop applications, you can now use the overlay display to make precise adjustments to focus and composition while checking the live view on your PC screen.
One-touch remote, One-touch sharing, Location Information Link
The One-touch remote feature turns your mobile device into a viewfinder and remote control, while One-touch sharing allows photos and videos to be transferred to your device for social media sharing. The camera can also acquire location data via Bluetooth®. (These mobile device features are available via Sony's Imaging Edge Mobile app.)
Sturdy, durable construction for robust operation
The camera's low-vibration shutter mechanism is designed and tested to withstand around 200,000 shutter cycles, and the body, top cover and front cover use a light but highly rigid magnesium alloy. Major buttons and dials are sealed, and casing components have an interlocked double-layer structure to resist dust and moisture.
Imaging Edge™ Remote, Viewer, and Edit
Elevate your photography with Imaging Edge desktop applications. Use "Remote" to control and monitor shooting live on your PC screen; "Viewer" to quickly preview, rate, and select photos from large image libraries; and "Edit" to develop RAW data into high-quality photos for delivery. Get the best from Sony RAW files, and manage your productions more efficiently.
